Twin bed measurements are 75 inches long x 39 inches wide. it is sometimes confused with the full bed. The full bed is also 75 inches long but is 54 inches wide.

Why Buy a Twin Bed?

Twin Or Full Bed

Being smaller, it is of course cheaper than the full bed. Even though it is narrow compared to others, it is large enough for a single adult or child. The compact size also makes it ideal for homes with limited space. It is also easier to move around, ideal for those who like to redecorate their homes frequently. The bedding and frame are cheaper too due to the size.

Variants

While 75 x 39 inches is the standard twin bed measurement, extra long units are available. These extra longs are 80 inches long but still 39 inches wide. There are also twin bunk beds available.

These are most suitable for children. There are also some bunks with a twin on top and full bed at the bottom. Twin trundle beds can be considered as another option. These are twin beds with a second mattress that slide out. The secondary bed can be of the same size or a full bed.

How to Measure an Oversized Twin Bed

Get the bed away from the wall so you can gauge the size comfortably. If necessary, take the bed off the frame. Put in on the ground. Now get a tape measure. Draw the tape to the mattress head. Note the number down.

If the mattress is an oversized twin, the length will be 80 inches. Grab the tape measure and place it at the side of the bed. Ask someone to draw the tape measure to the other side. The number should register 39 inches.

Tips for Buyers

Check the sheets measurements for the mattress. Twin mattress fitted sheets measure 39 x 76 inches. Flat sheet dimensions differ, but it really does not matter. The reason is it will project onto the sides.

The typical mattress is 7 to 9 inches deep. You can buy beds in stores and online. While it is sometimes cheaper to buy online, you cannot test the bed. You should also compare the prices before you settle on a bed.

Always check the bed measurements before buying. The difference between the standard and oversized twin bed may not seem much. But if room is limited, every inch will be a factor.
